About Me

Gustavo de Carvalho is a public policy research and consultancy offering a wealth of experience and expertise. With over 15 years of experience in multilateralism, African governance, diplomacy, and international organisations, I have a deep understanding of the complex systems that shape public policy at the global level.

I serve as a Senior Researcher at the African Governance and Diplomacy Programme of the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA), specialising in support of African stakeholders on engagement with global issues. I also conduct consultancy services for multiple think tanks and international organisations.

For the past 15 years, I have worked for numerous international organisations and think tanks, such as the Institute for Global African Affairs at the University of Johannesburg, the United Nations in Guinea-Bissau, the Institute for Security Studies (ISS), the African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD), and Global Witness.
